John Swindells BMus ARCO
John is an organist, teacher, musical director and trumpet player based in the glorious county of Worcestershire, England.
Born in Harrogate, he was a chorister under Ronald Perrin at Ripon Cathedral, before gaining a musical scholarship to Giggleswick School, North Yorkshire, where he began to play the organ with Peter Read and Tim Harvey. The school has a unique domed chapel with a Henry Willis Organ.
John gained a BMus degree from Sheffield University in 2000 and — having had lessons with Dr Simon Lindley — the ARCO diploma in 2004. During his time at Sheffield, John was organ scholar at the Anglican Cathedral before holding music teaching posts in Stroud and Malvern.
Since 2006 he has been organist at St Michael's Church in Tenbury Wells and combines this with the organist post at Moor Park School, Ludlow. John also teaches at King Edwards VI Five Ways Grammar School, Birmingham and at The Elgar School of Music in Worcester.
As a conductor, John is Musical Director of Bewdley Choral Society and Malvern Hills District Brass Band. He also administers the Great Witley Church Music Series and is honorary treasurer of the Gloucestershire Organists Association.
John also continues to compose music for the organ, choirs, chamber groups and brass bands.
